The opening party and show is a prelude to the first day of the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival 2008, which will run from August 13-17.

The fashion industry has celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign in Australia with a glamorous celebrity-studded show by designer Alex Perry in Sydney.

The campaign, which started in the US before spreading to several other countries including Australia, raises awareness of breast cancer and funds for research.

The gala birthday event, held in a marquee in Martin Place, attracted a host of celebrities and fashionistas eager for a look at Perry’s spring summer collection, which featured flowing sparkly frocks in pastels and edgier animal prints.

The event also doubled as a pre-launch for the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival, which kicks off today.

The festival is designed to bring fashion to the people with shows from a number of top designers open to the public, just as their collections hit stores.

Models wearing designs made from Australian Wool at the Australian Wool and Woolmark launch as part of the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival 2008 at the Sydney Theatre Company on August 12, 2008 in Sydney, Australia.

Australian Wool Innovation has launched a new-look Woolmark as well as a new exclusive Australian Merino brand, which it says represents an evolution of the Australian Merino anniversary logo which was first showcased on the global stage in 2007.

According to AWI, the Woolmark’s has taken on a fresh look and licensee program for “today’s smarter, greener world”. [Source]

British fashion magazine i-D has devoted its entire May 2008 issue (with six different covers) to Agyness Deyn, calling her the “new face of Britain”.

With her elfin white blonde hair, endless legs and knife-like cheekbones, she’s the hottest new girl on the block.

Hailed as a modern-day Kate Moss, at 5ft 9in she’s two inches taller, nine years younger… and way cooler.

Demand for her is huge. Agyness is the multi-million-pound face - and body - of Mulberry and Burberry and a Vogue cover girl.

Even if she’s the biggest model of the moment right now, Agyness insists she leads a (more or less) regular life. Here’s what she said about her size and food preferences:

“I’m no size-zero. I still eat fish and chips. And pizza. It’s my favourite food and they do the best ones in New York. “People think models starve themselves but not me. I eat really normally.

I think it’s important to be healthy, and for that you are allowed a little bit of everything. If you eat too much you put on weight, if you have a happy medium you stay the same. Every thing in moderation, Especially pizza!

I work out, not avidly, I don’t work out every day. I do yoga, I’ve just started and I love it.” Indeed. Her perfect skin belies the fact that she loves to party - nightclubbing with celebrity chums Lily Allen and Kelly Osbourne.

14-year-old Polish model Monika Jagaciak was banned from the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week amid continuing controversy over the sexualisation of young girls in the fashion industry.

A photo-shoot of Monika Jagaciak by Australian Vogue was also called off after the editor said she had not realised the Polish teenager’s age.

Organisers of Australian Fashion Week in Sydney banned all under-16s from the catwalk after furious public debate over the use of youngsters in an industry already under fire over anorexia and drug use.

It follows a similar decision ahead of London Fashion Week last September and brings the Australian event into line with shows in other leading cities. [Daily Mail]
